Most people will answer this question with avg but there is a virus software called kaspersky (around 拢40) that came second best in detecting viruses and software in the 2007 awards (1st place was won by one worth 拢80) but aol offer the same kaspersky anti virus FREE to everyone.

When I installed it after trying both AVG and avast it found three the others hadn't, and it is easy to use and has a decent interface

If you decide this one is not for you I would say avast comes 2nd after aol then AVG.

Ive tried many and i have to go with avast antivirus, theres a free home version you can download.
best is thrown around alot in this subject... probably AVG or Avast
