Anti-virus and Anti-spyware software ...?

I am looking for a good, free anti-virus and anti-spyware software for home use.

I heard avast! Anti-virus is good. Do they offer real-time protection like Norton and McAfee?

I was also trying to download Spybot Search and Destroy but when I install it, I get an error.

So what do you recommend? Should I just pay for Norton or McAfee or is there any other possibilities?

Spybot Search and destroy(this is a good spyware and it has very fast scans,althrough it doesn't detect EVERYTHING,I recommend to use once a week)

Ad-aware(free anti-spyware,this gets ALL the crap out your PC,but it has very very slow scan,I recommend to use it once every month or so)
