What is the best open source anti virus software?

Open source means that the source code for the program is freely available. This might be counter-productive for an anti-virus program as it would help the virus writers to circumvent it. As far as I am aware, there is no open source anti-virus program.

Now if you just want a free antivirus program, that's a different question.

If it's a free anti-virus program for Windows, try AVG: http://free.grisoft.com/.

If it's an open source one, you can download ClamAV from http://www.clamav.net/. It's originally for UNIX systems, but it's also available for Windows as well now, though I've not tested it on Windows yet so can't comment on how good it is compared with others.
i use AVG
i used comodo, not opensours but free
I always used avg free, its not open source, but it's reliable.
