You can set it to update automatically every day. R. Click on the AVG icon - click on Launch AVG Control Centre - click on 'Test Centre' - click on 'Scheduler' and set the time you want. It will check and update when you first log on that day after the time you have set.

Yes, you download the updates for free on the company website and they give install instructions as well.

Doodad
no.. it inform you if there afe any updates and asks you if you want to download them
nope, i've got AVG and get regular updates automatically to my computer.
When you download the program there should be a button you can click to get updates. you should be connected to the Internet so they can get the info. You should do this daily. I have the program and love it.
NO, not unless you want to.

Both can be configured to run an auto update whenever you wish to set it. Choose a time when you are not using the PC but it is left on and connected to the Internet.
No. Both AVG Free and Avast! Home edition have in-built update checking facilities. You can either enable the Automatic Updates feature (which will check for updates daily when you turn on the computer), or you may manually download the updates by opening your AVG / Avast! and pressing the Update button. This also holds true for all other (free and non-free) anti-viruses and also most other types of software. It's not that free software have crippled facilities. Actually, AVG and Avast! are better than the non-free counterparts like Norton, McAfee etc.!
