Norton, like all the AV scanners above is not free. It is also no better than AVG Free, so ask yourself why do I pay? For updates? AVG is updated almost everyday.

An AV is only as good as it is up to date. It's no good having Norton Avti-Virus 2003 with no updates since you installed it. That's like having no protection at all. You actually have no defense against any virus coded after 2003.

I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category.I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps.
Certainly Norton IS good ( I use it), but it uses a lot of resources and needs updating ( through subscription yearly) so be prepared for that.
