Panda anti-virus enquiry?

i have a copy of panda platinum anti-virus 2005 which i got with my computer in the software bundle

i have only decided to use it now so i have a few questions i would like answered

1.as it is a year old(but unused),will there be any problems with registration,because it is a 2005 edition

2.as it has a firewall on it,do i have to disable my one in sp2,or can i run both

3.will the spyware apts conflict with any of my existing programs(spybot,adaware-se)

4.i have 12 months free services with the disc,will they start from the day i install it?

i also have a copy of norton anti-virus that came with the motherboard chipset drivers disc,so can i put this on my second machine when my existing subscription runs out

Question about Norton Anti virus and virus detection?

I was browsing the internet yesterday and suddenlly I got a window that popped up from my Norton Antivirus software saying that Norton AntiVirus had detected a virus and that it has been immediately deleted. I ran a virus scan afterwards and there were no threats. I've never had this happen before so my question is, do I need to do anything, like go into the Norton and quarantine or do something to make sure my computer is threat-free? Or is it all taken care of? I don't know, it just seems too easy to have the software delete the virus immediately and then that's it!

Mozilla wont allow websites to load files onto your computer the same way that IE does.

spybot and adware are COMPLETELY differant then an anti virus software. ONLY and anti-virus software can scan for a virus that is hidden on a file or attachement because there are ''virus definitions'' of all the viruses that have been identified and your program searches for them. If you never download anything or use the net you dont really need it.. a majority of people do. Its a safe bet compared to aving to reinstalled your OS cause your PC crashed
Norton is GARBAGE!!!!! Mainly because its a memory and CPU hog...... However, it does its job better then 90% of the anti-virus products out there today......

Error 600 means: an operation is pending.

This is probably due to a hung program running in the background. Use CTRL+ALT+DEL to get the task manager, if there is anything listed with ''not responding'' end task it. If that doesn't help, shut down everything that you don't need. And if that doesn't help either, try restarting the computer.

In my opinion every hard disk manufacturer should think the possibility of installing some good anti-virus firmware to eleminate the viruses when using this HDD. We can updated this software by visiting the manufacturer's site. Why no one thinks over this idea ?

The reason why that is an issue, is that the firmware of the drive controls the basics of how it operates, constantly updating the firmware brings possiblities of the firmware being corrupted by say a power surge mid-update.

Not only that, but it would require a decent amount of flash memory on the drive to contain the software and definitions. Though I guess flash memory is cheap enough and small enough to justify it.

I think there's no best antivirus, all have adventages and disadventages over the others.

Now, to get good protection, you don't need only a good antivirus but a good antispyware too, naturally updating them constantly, and if you keep long time in line, a firewall is necesary too.

I have NOD32, Spybot Search %26 Destroy and Windows Firewall, and my problems with dangerous files or external atacks are minimal.

Well, i would suggest eScan antivirus. You need not install the newer versions again n again. Install it once %26 by selecting the settings, it will automatically get updated from time to time. Also, the privacy settings are very user friendly. Blocking of unwanted sites , blocking pop ups are some of its good features.

i think Windows One Care is much better than Norton because it doesn't slows down your PC like Norton does and nor it corrupts the system or program files from the computer.

I think Norton AV is better than Windows Live one Care though the former slows your system at startup. According to the AV software rating Norton AV stands within top ten(I don't remember the exact position) but not Windows Live One Care. But Kaspersky AV is much better than both that stands second in rating and Active Virus Shield, powered by Kaspersky is also very good AV, anti-trojan and anti-spyware and it's free. It is available for download at www.activevirusshield.com. Though it's free, I feel it's better than many paid AV softwares.

Well I see many people saying NO. But the correct answer is: YES YOU CAN, but antivirus programs may not run well while both active, so only one is recommended.
There are a lot of reasons why you can't use two antivirus software:

1. One antivirus software will lock down a file and other antivirus may detect a new virus in it, but will not remove it because it is locked.

2. Both antivirus together will slow down your computer extremely.

Windows Defender is not the best, but better then nothing

PCTools products do get good reviews. The good thing is they have free versions of their products. They work great. Spyware Doctor from the Google pack is a must. I highly recommend it. I bought Webroots Spysweeper and spyware doctor finds stuff spysweeper does not. Having both is a perfect combo and I recommend running two anti-spyware products.

Personally I am not a fan of Norton either. I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. I have been using AVG free edition since 2003. I have not had a virus to date. You really need to use it in conjunction with a firewall and several antispyware solutions also.
Mcaffe and Symantec are NOT THE BEST, They are probably the worst, Extremely slow, poor realtime monitoring, nominal detection, Must I go on. The only reason alot of people use McAfee or Symantec is because it came with their computer and they dont know what else to get..

google for symnrt.exe (symantec norton removal tool)

Symnrt is their brute-force removal tool - they suggest using it when the add/remove programs option no longer works.

Run it, reboot system and run it again.

There are remnants left behind after running it (it does not remove everything). Sometimes these remnants impact the re-loaded version negatively.

I would suggest removing Norton AV, and installing Kaspersky AV ($40) + Spysweeper ($25) + ZoneAlarm (free)

I know, everyone has their opinion of whats best. In my defense, I do this for a living, and 90% of my customers don't have ANY problems when they follow my directions - the other 10%, well, there are always rebels in every bunch.

I could make a lot more money off them by giving them what they ask for - or - what the media says is best, but in the long run, they are loyal to me because I truly know what I am doing, and make my suggestions with their best interest at heart.

It depends on your operating system. If you are using windows vista there's no surprise about that. I tried installing norton anti virus and it wouldn't work. What i did was download the trial version of norton then i typed in my activation and now i can use it for one year.

Just exit the applications or turn them off( for anti virus and spy ware) by right clicking on the Icon for each application in the taskbar an clicking exit. Pop Up blockers are disabled in your internet browser. Typically under Tools, Options, Content

( Firefox) or similar in Internet explorer.
It depends which Anti Virus and Spyware Package you have.... in Most of the Cases these work on the system tray. RIght click on their ICON and Disable it.

well this is kinda a hard question to answer because everyone has different likes and dislikes. but; i used AVG antivirus for the last year and never once did i have a virus. A friend had avast on her computer and i decieded to download it to try . it found 5 virus on my computer first thing. i was so pleased with it i deleted AVG and keep it.
